The Adirondack Pastel Society was established in 2008 and is open to any artist working in the medium of soft pastel and to any person or organization wishing to promote participation in the medium.  APS provides exhibiting opportunities for pastel artists and works to educate and encourage students and professionals in the medium through workshops, demonstrations and interaction among its members.  APS is a member of the International Association of Pastel Societies.

Membership dues are $25 – $30 per annum. Please click on “Application” for more details.

The Adirondack Pastel Society (APS) centers its shows around the Glens Falls, NY area, and exhibits in the Shirt Factory Gallery, the Crandall Library, and in many other locations in the area. See our “Events” page for more information.

Corey Pitkin Portrait Workshop 2016

Criteria for Signature Membership

  • Work shows Excellence, Originality, and Consistency (Primary Element)
  • Demonstrated Exhibition Record, (such as acceptance into 3 national art exhibitions outside of the annual Adirondack National) (Secondary Element)
  • Applications must be received by April 15, each year, along with a non-refundable jury fee of $10

Review Process: The Signature Committee meets annually to review all applications. Each applicant’s group of images is reviewed together and evaluated for its stylistic consistency, mastery of composition and other design elements. The committee discusses these and votes. Because Signature status connotes a high level of mastery of the medium, the strongest applicants must show a developed individual style and a unique point of view. If you are still experimenting with your style and voice as an artist, consider holding off on this application. The applicant’s painting images should be considered as the primary element in this application.
